The work I am doing in Art Coaching is very much moved from a structured coaching style I was trained with to a dynamic creative process unfolding in the moment that is born out of my life experience and meditation practice and training.  I am going to attempt to capture a little formula I’ve become aware of, researched and discussed at great lengths at the philosophical table of one of the great artists I have the pleasure of working with. When great minds meet, magic happens.

The term flow can be described as a fluidity of mind, emotions are the hormones that wash over our brain and body and our mind can be aware of our emotional state without becoming it and we ‘let go’ without applying a meaning to it. Our emotions are usually triggered by something that we recognise in our memory and our response is usually based on that memory. If we let go, as in refocus the mind in stillness, awareness of the story that is related to the emotion and understand it’s origin it no longer has power over us in this moment. In remaining fluid we actually have the power to change the condition within and don’t influence the outcome of now with pre-conceived ideas.

NLP is a skill taught by many mental health practitioners and coaches alike. Reframing is about choice, understanding the way the mind works and being self aware of your thought patterns and emotions and style of thinking and processing information. Understand the past but unless you can let it go you won’t change your future because you will be standing still in the same lessons/patterns.

During coaching we become aware of limiting behavior and thinking and through stillness and meditation you can allow any negative or limiting thoughts and emotions to flow without applying meaning to your current situation, that way your experiences are fresh and you don’t carry dysfunction from the past around with you. You become unconditional space. You actually heal and grow differently. NLP has the power to change your genetics, by reprogramming and re-conditioning the brain you actually change the body. This is the miracle of mind body health, it’s actually based on science. This is also where the understanding of brain plasticity comes from.

Using re-framing you can remember trauma and other set backs or failures are events that have shaped your character and driven your creative self, your chemistry and biological being are the result of genetics handed down from your parents condition and your life experience to this date, if you’re aware of it or not it’s real regardless. It doesn’t mean you have to remain in the same patterns at any time you can step aside, recognize it, feel it and choose to be in the moment of appreciation for now. With practice you can influence it. When you step aside from the past with gratitude you see it is fluid and begin to understand that although it may have shaped you, you are now empowered to become a limitless being of light (new neural pathways)  from all the learning that helped you arrive now.

This is what it is to enlighten. It takes a good 30 days for it to begin to take shape, habits as adults are a lot more deeply ingrained and take extra dedication and practice to achieve letting go and reframing. Most of my coaching programs run for 6 weeks, sessions once a week. This gives time to identify limiting beliefs and patterns, understand them, foster the solutions and break the habit by introducing the solution systems into everyday life.

In my personal work I’ve noticed the emotional programming of beliefs and thought patterns spike before they can be let go of fully, meaning the emotion becomes like a drug, your bodies cells hunger for familiar, it can be overcome. We have mechanisms in the brain to prevent us from change, they hold us in situations we become familiar with, like an evolutionary hangover navigation system, most of our fears in life go un-realized and are indeed imagined and when you understand this you begin to become a pendulum swinging between reaction and being and get closer to being in the moment. Transitional.

Letting go of toxic emotions gets easier with practice and for someone who has been damaged by the past or experienced a failure of some kind, meditation, letting go, self observation and reframing can help you live more fulfilled in the present moment, take more risks and live without limits on what you can achieve and give back to this world.

Our time here is short and so many people live miserable lives where they don’t feel they are their full potential, either victim to the past, or not being authentic or anxious about the future. There is no joy in playing small or being a prisoner of an emotional landscape that is unrelated to the present moment. Working on your own personal development or with a coach or buddy can help open you out to life and give you the space to develop yourself with intention fostered from your deepest values.

When creating art using NLP and coaching techniques, understanding the dynamics of the past, present and future vision enables you to express on multi-levels and allows you to communicate a paradigm giving the observer a freedom to choose their response without judgment. By being less judgmental humans are more organically inclined to love and love heals the mind, body and spirit.
